Miss Smith, a former Ohio kindergarten teacher who has made a living singing and songwriting out of Nashville for only two years after leaving the classroom, displayed a pleasing country voice ranging from sweet to gravelly and did some vocal acrobatics with a yodeling number.

She performed for a half hour as a warmup but many in the clapping, shouting audience were wishing she would encore before the featured performer played his show.

Ms. Smith is somewhat a phenomenon in the music business, having first entered the musical scene after she reached the age of 30.

However, when she arrived, SHE ARRIVED!!! In the short space of just over three years, she has had eight top country records, three of which - "Don't Break the Heart That Loves You," "It Only Hurts for a Little While," and "Little Things Mean a Lot." - went to no. 1
